The West Frankfort Public Library service area consists of approximately 8,196 residents and serves the area within the city limits of the City of West Frankfort Illinois.
West Frankfort is a rural community whose residents take pride in its friendly atmosphere. Formerly a coal mining center, the town is now known for boat building and as an area center for furniture sales, with West Frankfort being known as "The Furniture Capitol of Southern Illinois." An outlet mall is a new addition to the town. West Frankfort People have pulled together in a community wide effort to build a new 1.8 million dollar recreation complex with an indoor swimming pool in our beautiful City Park.
Our Library contains about 40,000 titles here, and, with access to the Dynix Automated Catalog through the Shawnee Library System, our patrons have access to over a million books. Our total collection consists of books, magazines, records, audio cassettes, music, newspapers, and pamphlets. A VCR/TV for use with John A. Logan College telecourses, a microfilm reader/printer for old copies of The Daily American newspaper, copy machine, FAX, access to the First Search Database of Periodicals, and computers with word processing and Internet access are available for patron use. A film projector, a slide projector, and an overhead projector are available for checkout to groups. We get Interlibrary Loan deliveries from the Shawnee Library System three days a week. The library is open six days a week, for a total of 56 hours per week.
We invite you to visit us. Our motto is, "If we can't find the book or information you need here, we will try our best to get it for you."
